The film director Jacob Jørgensen started recording his first portrait in 1978. In the portrait of the painter and the author Hans Scherfig we follow him while he speaks on high schools and in associations and unions. We get to know Scherfig while he is working and when he tells us about his books and under which terms he experienced the occupation. A conversation between Scherfig and the graphic designer and author Dea Trier Mørch is incorporated in the film, and Scherfig gives an insight into his view of life which is the foundation for his work as a painter and an author.
