With the painting "Freedom, Equality and Brotherhood" the artist Wilhelm Freddie introduced surrealistic art to Denmark in 1930 on the Academy of Arts. Many years later he became professor and honorary member of the Royal Danish Academy of Arts and his innovative paintings have gained great recognition. But it wasn't always like that. JJ Film has made a portrait of a man who takes a backward glance at his first difficult and turbulent years as an artist. Wilhelm Freddie tells about his imprisonment because of his offensive paintings and how he experienced the public invasion of his privacy and the destruction of his works.
